大阪、神戸で育ちインターナショナルスクール(聖ミカエル国際学校、マリストブラザーズ国際学校）で学ぶ。大阪でディスコを経営していた両親の影響で、幼くしてEW&F, A.W.B, Chaka Khan, Isley Brothers, Sly and the Family Stoneなどのソウルやファンク・ミュージックに抱かれてすくすく育つ。
RAINBOW CHILD
ディスコでの生活の後、１４歳でアコギを弾きはじめJoni Mitchell, Carole Kingなどアコースティックなものにもハマる。湾岸戦争まっただ中でヒッピータウン、ワシントン州シアトル大学に入学。ほとんどの時間は反戦デモとpeace walkのために使われる。ストリートでプロテストソングを歌いはじめたことで、本来の天職を思い出す。帰国後、OL、英語教師をしながら夜はライブで経験を重ねる。オリジナルを書きためるかたわら、R&B, soul系の数々のセッションに参加。時にはN.Y.のセッションやレコーディングにも参加する等、実践によって経験を重ねていく。
EARTH QUAKE!!!
ライブをしてるのが楽しかったから、最大のパッションである音楽をビジネスにするつもりもなかった。そんななか、関西淡路大震災で被災する。市役所などでボランティアをしつつもたくさんの人の死を一度にまのあたりにして、「自分が生まれて、音楽を好きになって、そして音楽をやっていた史跡を残したい。」と思うようになった。ライブという瞬間瞬間の妙を楽しむ場だけでなく、CDを生まれて初めてこの時作りたいと真剣に願いはじめた。

1995 インディーズ デビュー、1997東芝にてメジャーデビューbounce Records よりミニアルバム「SAKURA」,'97年には「All Brand New](No Music, No Life)をリリースと、インディーズで順調に実績を伸ばし同年、東芝EMIよりメジャー・デビュー。その後９年間東芝EMIよりたくさんのアルバムとシングルをリリース。

数知れぬライブの経験と天性の素質で培った圧倒的な歌唱力とsoulやR&Bを自分なりに昇華させてstyleは当然巻き起こりつつあった FEMALE-R&Bムーヴメントの中でも頭一つ抜けた先駆者的存在となる。たくさんのアーティストが現れては消える中で、SAKURAは「魂から溢れ出る音楽」をジャンルにこだわる事無くつくり続ける。

02年に神奈川県逗子市に居を移し、ライフ・スタイルは湘南・Hawaiianモードを堪能。ステージでもレコーディングでもトレードマークかつサウンド・アイコンになったUkulele。忙しく音楽制作一本だった生活から距離を置き、サーフィンやハワイアンキルト、アロマセラピーやクリスタルヒーリングの勉強など、ここで初めて人生の新しいチャプターの始まりを感じる。「何が大切なのか」を自問自答するなかで、自然と海や、森や家族との時間を通じて、ほんとうの「soul music - 魂の音楽」は何なんなのかを探し始める。
Awakening into a Self Employed Musician
4年間学び続けたアロマセラピーとクリスタルヒーリングの経験と実践、自らのセルフヒーリングの経験の生かし、音楽にもヒーリングの要素をもりこむことを始める。その後メジャーから独立、sakura咲楽recordsを立ち上げる。住居も地元神戸に移し、ライブ活動や、メジャー時代では経験できなかった「ひとりひとりとの交流」を大切に思い始める。ポジティブな癒しのパワーを込めた音楽だけを世に送りだすことを心に誓う。
Children's welfare and Peace education
自分が音楽のパワーで癒されたことを通じて、何かを返していくことはできないか？というところから出発した「mamaからkidsへpeace now!」。このイベントはママから子供への平和教育と、マイクを通さない「生音」の想い出を子供達に作ってあげたくて始めたイベント。ここから発展して２００８年４月から「Peace Angel Ukulele Club」というムーブメントを始めた。「日本中の子供達に楽器の楽しさと平和教育を」の発想からスタートした。全国から参加者を募って、チームを結成し、各地域の教育機関、養護施設など子供たちへの平和教育とウクレレを通じて子供達との交流を深めてもらう活動をしている。新曲「I Love You～優しく漂う愛のそよ風～の全収益はこの活動に使われます。

At the tender age of 4...
SAKURA first fell in love in music when her parents started a Disco night club in Osaka. Her life became filled with heavy bass thumping R&B music from loud speakers. Since SAKURA and her family lived in the club, her room was the tiny cloak room that was behind the cash register. Many nights she drifted off into sleep to gut spitting soulful music of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan , Earth Wind & Fire and many more influencial artist in the 70's at that time. Even to this day, her favorite "lullaby" is the album "Fresh" of Sly and the Family Stone.
At the age of 10...
The family closed the club, and moved to the beautiful nature-filled city of Kobe. SAKURA graduated St. Michael's International School, and enrolled at Marist Brother's International School.
Her first divine purpose struck like lightening at age 14...
She turned from fantasizing to performing music herself at the age of 14 when she picked up an old beat up acoustic guitar that was laying around in her apartment. After she learned some chords out from the books, she started writing her own songs. Her chance to perform came a month later, where one of the missonary Brother had asked her to perform at the afternoon assembly. She sang one of her original song, and Amy Grant's "You gave me love". There at first performance, she gained applause and recognition as a student that was to pursue music for her career. Since SAKURA was an introverted quiet child, the applause and the elation and the surprise of the whole school was a big wake-up call to her divine purpose of expressing her creativity through music from that day on. On the same year, she participated in the Yamaha Popular song Contest and won Silver(third place), youngest ever to enter the contest.
SAKURA then puts her focus into school work and College preparation..
She somewhat felt fear in pursuing music in the music business, since music was her passion, and she was afraid of failire, rejection and competition. SAKURA also desired to get full college education since she felt that the music business was unpredictable, and she wanted to be solid and financially independent when it was her time for her to leave home.
SAKURA enrolls at Seattle University at age 17...
She decides to pursue becoming an elementary school teacher. She had teaching experiences at summer schools, and wanted to work with children.
Then the Gulf war strikes...
In her second year of college, the war strikes, and SAKURA starts devoting her time into organizing anti-war rallies and peace walks, and spends most of her time and energy on the freeways picketing and shouting world peace. She started singing on the streets of Seattle, starts writing protest songs, and eventually her mind shifts from wanting to becoming a teacher, back into becoming a singer & a song writer.
She decides to transfer to Seattle Central Community College and finished her A.A. degree, and decides to move back home with a purpose to pursue a musical career.
After working temporaliry at a mountain bike export company, teaching english, gigging at night to learn music through various sessions, SAKURA enters more contests and swipes trophies. But her focus was on getting musical experience from the streets, and building foundation for her singing and songwriting.
Then the big Earthquake hits Kobe...
SAKURA saw her beautiful hometown fall down in rubbles. She experienced sleepless nights, heartaches by the 5000 deaths in her city. She is once again reminded that she needs to get real with herself and commit to pursuing a professional musical career. She decides to move to Tokyo where most of the record companies are positioned.
At the age of 23...
SAKURA started out her musical career from Bounce Label (Tower Records). 2years later, she signs as the recording artist for Virgin EMI whch she releases countless album and singles for the next 9years. Within the 9years, she gave birth to her son Sora, and decides to move out from Tokyo to the bay area Zushi, which is a surf town and where everybody is somewhat Island life style & very layed back. There she starts surfing, and spent 4years studying aromatherapy and crystal healing courses, in which she learned self healing, power of prayers and manifestation. In order to improve as a qualified healer and artist, she turns vegitarian, and shifts to ecological conscious life style.
Then another influence! Her aquaintance with Ukulele...
SAKURA decided to drop by "Ukulele Studio Shichirigahama" which one of the most distinct ukulele builder Mitusi makes and teaches hand made ukuleles. She showed up with her son who was 4 at the time. Accidentally Sora ends up knocking down about 10 ukuleles that were displayed on the walls in Mitusi's beautiful home. They all froze when they found out that one ukulele was heavily cracked from the incident - it was Mitsui's most treasured vintage ukulele that traveled from Hawaii to his home 50 years ago. With deep apology SAKURA decides to take ukulele lessons out of deep guilt. She was known to be a "R&B" singer at the time, and had no clue of how to incorporate ukulele into her music. Her first question as she showed up at her first private lesson was "Are we going to learn Hawaiian songs?" In hopes that the answer would be "no, you're learning jazz songs!" the actual answer was : "ofcourse we're learning Hawaiian traditional songs!! I only teach ukulele "Hawaiian style". SAKURA's enthusiam temporarily dwindled, since she had never listened to a Hawaiian songs and had no idea what she got herself into. But soon after her first stroke to the song "Liliu'e", she immediately fell in love. She still recalls to this day that it was destiny - divine destiny that her son hooked her up to. She dedicated her time to learning Hawaiian stlye ukulele from Mitsui for the next 2and a half years. Since then, ukulele has been her healer, travel mate, and her sound icon on her CD's to this day. Her color palet of music broadenened from straight R&B to more acoustic, Jawaiian, reggae, surf rock, but with the back bone of "soulfulness" which evolved her to become a true original.
Time for Independence...
SAKURA decides to move back to her hometown Kobe, and establish her own label "Sakura咲楽Records". Her first single from her label "Itsumademo~subetenoh hitonoh kokoro e todoke version~" appeared on the Oricon Japanese national indie chart placing 4th, stayed within the top 20 for the next 4 weeks. After releasing few cuts from Universal Music K.K., she is currently concentrating on her own independent label, and balancing volunteer work for peace education and musical fun for children. She is also a single mother balancing motherhood and her career. She also has a ukulele sponsorship from world's number 2 ukulele maker "KoAloha" of Oahu Hawaii.
Her latest single launched from her own label "Sakura咲楽 Records" is called "I Love You～優しく漂う愛のそよ風～”. She also made the english version "I Love You～Ke ahe makani o aloha～, and both versions plus the instrumental version will be available through download globally. This song has been chosen for the Max Factor CM in Japan.
Act Globally...
Through experiences of being chosen by "JICA"and being appointed to visit Vietnam to report the Japan's ODA utilization in Vietnam, SAKURA's conciousness with children's education and welfare comes to focus. She is also passionate to bringing focus to the unfair childhood labor situations in the world, and is working with "People Tree". She has performed at World fair trade Day and still continues to be devoted to activisms and sending peaceful messages through music for the welfare of women, children and world peace.
Think Locally...
SAKURA has also been involved in her community volunteering work and children's peace education in Japan. She is networking volunteers all over Japan to contribute their love to "Peace Angel Ukulele Club". This organization that she currently launched is about creating volunteer groups that would teach peace education and joy of music through the Hawaiian traditional instrument "ukulele".She educates the volunteers nationaly through web-inar( seminar over the web), and coordinates them to go to schools, children's hospitals, orphanage, where ever there's a group of children! Her dream is to establish this network overseas as well. Her latest single "I Love You" has been dedicated to her "Peace Angel Ukulele Club" , she will be using all profits like tithing - it will go to ukulele's for children, and used for this cause for volunteers for this project nation wide.
